Gynecomastia (Male Breast Reduction)

Gynecomastia Is a medical term that describes a condition in 40 to 60 percent of men. It means that one or both of their breasts are enlarged. Though certain drugs and medical problems have been linked with male breast overdevelopment, there is no known cause in the vast majority of cases. This procedure is for men who feel self-conscious about their appearance. The procedure removes fat and or glandular tissue from the breasts, and in extreme cases removes excess skin, resulting in a chest that is flatter, firmer, and better contoured. The best candidates for male breast reduction are those individuals who are healthy and emotionally stable. Surgery may be discouraged for obese or overweight men who have not first attempted to correct the problem with exercise or weight loss. Individuals who drink alcoholic beverages or smoke marijuana are usually not considered candidates. Surgery for gynecomastia (male breast reduction) is most often performed as an outpatient procedure at a hospital or outpatient surgery center under general anesthesia. The excision of the fat or glandular tissue may be performed alone or in conjunction with a form of liposuction. You can normally return to work within 5 to 7 days, but this does vary with each individual. The estimated fee for gynecomastia ranges from $4300 to $6500.
