Following a cosmetic or reconstructive procedure, you will want to return to work or social activities as soon as your body recovers from the procedure. There is a difference between being physically ready to return to these activities and emotionally prepared to return. Depending on the procedure and your individual physical make-up, the length of time that swelling, bruising, or discoloration of the skin continues will vary. Men and women often find the use of camouflage cosmetics very helpful. Sando Jones Aker Cosmetic • Plastic Surgery provides a full skin care service line including a skin care specialist to help you in this process. We suggest that if you are considering a procedure, you meet with the skin care specialist prior to your surgery. Realistic expectations created by the patient and physician discussing the procedure are essential. The skin care specialist will help prepare your skin prior to the procedure and then have the appropriate products available afterward. Cosmetics can be used to hide the visible incision lines along with surrounding area discoloration that can follow a facelift or eyelid surgery. The use of highlighter and contour can create the appearance of higher better-defined cheekbones. Contouring can make a swollen nose, for instance, appear narrower or minimize a swollen chin. Product Types
Concealing products are thicker and more opaque then foundation makeup. Concealing products are used to cover healed incision lines, scars, and bruises on the face or body. You need to speak with the surgeon and skin care specialist to know where it is safe to use a concealing agent. For instance, it is not a good idea to use concealer on thin, delicate skin around your eyes. Color correcting products can be used to disguise the yellowish tint of a bruise or the redness that occurs following a laser resurfacing, chemical peel, or dermabrasion. Contouring agents are used to disguise the swelling that occurs following facial implants or nose surgery. Contouring products may be challenging to use but can enhance your overall image greatly.
